value for money

i have been often accused of not understanding the "true value" of a commercial block buster. and of not liking anything that gets very famous ...for example "kabhi alvida na kehna" i did not like the movie, i detested the way the movie was made. i hated shahrukh khan trying to be the man with "grey shades", frustrated idiot, which im sure he is offscreen too (considering he is supposed to be closet gay, and he is the superstar with hardly any movies that deserve critical acclaim, except bazigar, maybe) u can kill me sharukh fans. i hated rani mukherjee who cried for more than half the movie...
and well more recently, i hated slumdog millionare, with all its hype around it. when it got the golden globe and got nominated for oscars, i was reminded of one historical figure in bollywood, who is possibly the greatest man to ever go abroad to do india proud by singing songs like "jai bolo beimaan ki" winning the filmfare award, also known as bharat or more commonly manoj kumar, driving the then non-resident-blonde-hair-dyed-indians to tears. i mean a movie like taare zameen par with an original script, great acting, good direction(and im not saying that coz im a aamir fan) doesn't even get nominated?? and slumdog wins?? what i thought of slumdog was that it was a hyped commercial hindi made into english movie, and there have been better depictions of 1993 riots even in fiza, of the gangster salim in company, or the desperate lover boy in rab ne bana di jodi. and then ofcourse it was a pain to watch anil kapoor trying to be the sly gameshow host. And i was left wondering why would the entire mumbai come to a standstill to watch the climax of the movie. and then ofcourse there are other questions... the only character i thought was worthy of attention was maman, irfan and saurav shukla, the kids were amazing as actors too. and with all due respect to gulzar sahab, jai ho wasnt half as good as his other songs have been over the years. neither was this A. R. Rehmans best... ok, definitely not an oscar winning album.
